Climate Change Network

Role and Function

Our Climate Change Network (CCN) provides expert advice for CIWEM and is a sounding board for current and new initiatives. The CCN enables CIWEM to deliver technical and policy outputs to a consistently high standard in this subject area. The network acts as a focal point, bringing together practitioners working in the area or for whom climate change is a particular area of interest or expertise. The network includes professionals from across the public and private sectors and across the globe. For more information about our work on climate change please visit theenergy and climate change page.

If you have climate change as an element of your work or are interested in climate change issues, please emailHeather Gardnerto join the network. Membership of the network is a great way to keep in touch with our work on climate change issues and to engage with peers. Membership of the network is open to both CIWEM members and non members.

We recently declared a climate and ecological emergency, the declaration can be viewedhere. The Climate Change Network and Specialist Panel provided expert knowledge for our recommendations for building a resilient society in ourClimate Resilience and Extreme Eventspaper. Other recent work includesour priorities for the National Adaptation Programme, and consultation responses oncoastal flooding and adaptation to climate change, thedraft climate change adaptation plan for Walesand thedraft climate change adaptation programme for Scotland.

Specialist Panel

The CCN is an online global network. A Specialist Panel meets periodically to help direct the work of the Network as a whole.

The Panel is chaired by Adam Hosking, Global Director for Jacobs with overall responsibility for Water Resources technical services, which includes Resilience, Climate Change Adaptation, flood and coastal risk management, stormwater green infrastructure, integrated water resource management, and ecosystem restoration.

The Specialist Panel aims to:

  • Be a focal point for professionals engaged in issues relating to climate change
  • Engage, inform and assist the UN, governments and other bodies on climate change
  • Advocate best practice globally
  • Contribute to the range of CIWEM activities
  • Raise its profile as an established network at conferences and events
  • Assist in the production of a range of policy outputs

If you have experience of working on climate change issues and would like to join the Specialist Panel, please emailHeather Gardnerfor more information.
